Our ethos and childcare philosophy.

Our ehtos and childcare philosophy.

At Grantham Nurseries we put the child, front and centre of everything we do. We have developed a curriculum which will provide opportunities of learning for every child regardless of gender, background and abilities.

Learning at our nurseries is through play and exploring with the support of our team of dedicated practitioners, within a safe, warm and nurturing environment. Our provisions are designed to be inviting and stimulating for the children, where they can explore and be curious. We incorporate natural and real-life resources based on the children’s interests to encourage this and to provide them with awe and wonder of the world around them.

Our experienced practitioners develop good relationships with the children to ensure that they feel safe and secure, and to encourage them to learn to be strong and independent. We aim to provide support and opportunities that are balanced, inclusive, broad and tailored for each child’s learning and development. Our aim is to give children the best start in life, and to help them fulfil their full potential.

How do I book a visit to look around?

You can contact us by phone or e-mail to arrange a visit. This usually lasts 30 minutes and we encourage you to bring your child with you when you visit and write down and bring with
you any questions you may have.

Do you offer funded places?

Yes, we offer government funded places for all children aged 9 months+ and over up until your child is ready to go to school. Funding from 9 months+ until the age of 3 is awarded once your eligibility has been checked; if successful you will receive a code which will give you access to the funding. More information about what funding you may be entitled to and any other financial support that you may be able to gain can be found at www.beststartinlife.gov.uk

How will I know who will be looking after my child, and what they will need to bring?

Before your child starts with us you will be sent a welcome pack. The welcome pack will contain a letter from the nursery and a letter from your child’s new room. The letter will include an explanation of what happens in the room and photographs of the staff who will
be looking after your child, including information about what qualifications the staff have
and their length of service. It will also include everything you need to know about what your child will need to bring with them. The welcome pack will also include an ‘All About Me’ form for you to fill in, so we can find out useful information about your child before they start in order to help settle them in.

Does my child need to wear a uniform?

In our Pre-school rooms uniform is compulsory, we believe that this helps children when they transition into school and also gives children a sense of community that they feel they
belong to. In our Toddler room there is an option for uniform, but it is not compulsory.

How often do staff receive safeguarding training?

All staff complete safeguarding training within their first week and refresh it every year. Our designated safeguarding leads also complete Level 2 training and refresh it every two years.

Do you accept government-funded places?

Yes. We accept government funding for:

All 3 and 4 year-olds.

Children of working parents aged from 9 months.

Eligible 2 year-olds from qualifying families.

Funded hours are available between 8.00 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday

How early can I book a place at Headstart nursery?

Since the government funding has been rolled out for babies aged 9months+ places at the nursery are in high demand, and we now see a lot of pregnant women booking places for their unborn baby. We operate waiting lists for most rooms; therefore, we recommend enquiring about a place with us as early as possible. We do ask for a deposit to secure your place; this is charged at £10 per day for every day you want to reserve Monday – Friday.

Do you offer taster sessions?

Yes, we offer 3-hour taster sessions, either 9.00 am - 12 noon or 1.00 pm – 4.00 pm. You will drop your child off with us at the start of the taster session with everything they will need and collect them at the end of the taster session. We will call you halfway through to let you know how they are getting on, and you can call us at any time.

You do not have to book a taster session, and it is completely up to you if you want them. You can book as many taser sessions as you like.

How will my child’s development be recorded?

At Headstart nursery we use an online monitoring platform called Footsteps, here the staff looking after your child will create a learning journey by uploading observations and photographs documenting your child reaching their milestones within the EYFS framework.

You will be sent an e-mail invitation to set up your parent portal so that you will be able to view your child’s learning journey. Parents are also encouraged to contribute towards their child’s learning by uploading observations and photos from home.

Do your staff have paediatric first aid and food hygiene training?

All our staff are trained in paediatric first aid and food hygiene, and this is refreshed every 3 years. In addition, staff also receive training in allergens and allergy awareness, which is also refreshed every 3 years.
