Baby Room (0-18 months)
Our Baby Room provides a calm and nurturing space, complete with a dedicated sleep room. We work closely with parents to follow each baby’s individual routine, ensuring a smooth and comforting experience. As they grow, babies transition to our Pre-Toddler Unit.

Pre-Toddler Unit
Located in a cosy log cabin within our garden, the Pre-Toddler Unit is perfect for children who are becoming more mobile. Here, little ones are encouraged to explore their surroundings, develop independence, and build confidence through play.

Toddler Room (2 years+)
Upon turning two, children move into the Toddler Room. This room focuses on expanding their natural curiosity, supporting decision-making, and fostering independence through a variety of activities and exploratory play.
Pre-School Learning Centre (3 years+)
When children reach the age of three, they join our Pre-School Learning Centre. The centre is divided into two areas:
• Lower Pre-School – The welcoming first step for 3-year-olds, introducing a more structured learning environment while still prioritising “learning through play.”
• Upper Pre-School – Designed for children preparing to start school the following year. Here, we focus on school-readiness skills, working closely with families to ensure every child feels confident and excited for their transition to “big school.”

Our Outdoor Provision
At Headstart Day Nursery, we believe that outdoor learning is an essential part of every child’s development. Just like our indoor spaces, our garden areas are thoughtfully designed to inspire curiosity, encourage exploration, and support children’s learning across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Age-Specific Outdoor Areas
In addition to our main garden, we provide dedicated outdoor spaces for both babies and toddlers. These areas offer safe, age-appropriate equipment that supports early physical skills, sensory exploration, and confidence-building. Having their own space allows our youngest children to explore freely and safely while developing at their own pace.
Toddler Outdoor Area
Our Toddler Room benefits from its own secure outdoor area, which children can access through free flow play throughout the day. This space is equipped with carefully selected resources and activities that reflect the children’s interests, helping them develop independence, communication, and early problem-solving skills. Practitioners plan the environment to ensure that every child has opportunities to explore, discover, and take on new challenges.
Main Garden
All children at the nursery have access to our main garden, a vibrant and engaging outdoor environment filled with resources to support physical development, imaginative play, and social interaction. From climbing equipment to natural materials, the garden provides rich opportunities for learning through exploration. Our dedicated practitioners work closely with the children to shape this space, ensuring it remains responsive to their interests, curiosity, and growing imaginations.

Forest School
We are proud to offer Forest School sessions as an addition for our Pre-School children, giving them enriching opportunities to learn, explore, and connect with the natural world. Led by a Level 3 qualified Forest School Practitioner these sessions take place weekly each term and are delivered in partnership with our sister nursery, Stepping Stones, at their dedicated Forest School site. (Please see their page for more information about this provision).
Forest School is a well-established approach that supports children’s holistic development. Through fixed weekly sessions each term, children take part in child-led exploration, hands-on activities, and meaningful time spent in natural environments. These experiences help them develop a wide range of skills that build confidence, independence, and resilience.

Headstart Clubhouse at Huntingtower School
Headstart Club House
At Headstart Day Nursery, we’re delighted to provide a friendly and nurturing Out of School Club for children aged up to 11. Our aim is to create a safe, happy space where children can unwind, have fun and enjoy time with friends before and after school, as well as during the holidays.
We offer before‑ and after‑school care for children attending St Anne’s CE Primary School, along with holiday care that’s open to all school‑aged children. No matter when they join us, children are welcomed into a warm, relaxed environment where they can feel comfortable and at home.
During term time, our team walks children to and from St Anne’s. Staff are fully trained in road safety and first aid, and children are always dropped off and collected from within the school grounds, as agreed with the school. We make these transitions calm and reassuring, helping children start and end their school day with confidence.
Inside the Club House, children can choose from a wide range of activities based on their interests — from arts and crafts to board games, construction, imaginative play and more. We also provide cosy areas for anyone who simply wants to relax and “chill out” after a busy day.
We make the most of both indoor and outdoor play (weather permitting), giving children plenty of opportunities to be active, explore and spend time with friends in a supportive environment.
During the holidays, we plan exciting themed days and outings, such as park trips, science days and even Harry Potter‑themed adventures, ensuring every day feels special.
If you’re looking for a fun, caring and safe place for your child, we’d love to show you around. Come and visit our Club House to see what we offer — we look forward to welcoming you.

Our Club House is a warm, safe and caring environment where children can enjoy a wide range of fun, engaging activities. Each day, children are escorted to and from the main school building by our friendly staff, who ensure transitions are calm, supervised and reassuring.
Inside the Club House, children have access to a variety of resources including arts and crafts, board games, imaginative play and activities based on their own interests. We place a strong focus on children’s well‑being, making sure they feel comfortable, settled and able to unwind. We make the most of both indoor and outdoor play (weather permitting), giving children opportunities to explore, be active and spend time with friends in a supportive environment. They can also use familiar outdoor areas within the school grounds, helping them extend their play and feel confident in their surroundings.
To make their time with us even more special, we plan themed activities linked to festivals, seasons or popular films and interests — adding excitement and variety to their days.
